The community psychiatry services have been replacing traditional hospital based treatment approaches. Up to date, examples are in favour of the community psychatry in comparison to the hospital based treatments. Additionaly, it establishes a supportive structure to the existing psychiatric hospitals. However, its own problems appears to be emerging, as the community psychiatry services grow rapidly. Turkey lags well behind the countries with established network of community psychiatry organisation. Whereas, it may be much easier for Turkish psyciatric hospitals to switch to the community psychiatric services. Because, the majority of the people with psychiatric problems have already been cared in the community by their relatives.
