Postoperatif İntervertebral Disk Mesafe Enfeksiyonları

In this retrospective study carried out in Bakırköy State Hospital for neurological and mental diseases, the intervertebral disc space infections that occurred during the years 1988-1993 were reviewed. In overall 2101 discectomy operations, 8 cases of intervertebral disc space infections were identified. The characteristics symptoms were severe low back pain and muscle spasm that began on the 7-14th days postoperatively. The primary physical findings were paravertebral muscle spasm and limited spinal motion. The detected laboratory fihding was elevated. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The elevated ESR and the clinical findings were taken as the criteria for diagnosis. The treatment consisted of administration of wide spectrum antibiotics and antiinflamatoly drugs and strict bedrest
