The prevelance of mood and anxiety disorders in patients with breast cancer (n=30) was compared to control subjects (n=30) who had no phsical and psychiatric complaint. 8 cancer patients (%27) had depressive disorder, while only 1(%3) of the control subjects had depressive disorder and the result was found significant. Anxiety disorders were seen in 5 of the canser patients (%17) compared to 6(%20) of the control subjects. This result was statistically insignificant. Hamilto Depression Scale, Spielberger's State Anxiety Scale and Emotional Disstress Scale were found higher in patients than control, subjects. There was no significant difference between the groups in Spielberger's Trait Anxiety Scale scores. Moreover, depnessive disorders clustered in the subgroup of cancer patients that is 22 of 30, who were aware of their ilness.
