In this study, sixty-four epileptic patients with psychiatric disorders admitted to Bak ırköy Neuropsychlatric State Hospital were selected and ethiological causes of epllepsy, age of patients, the type and age of epllepsy as well as the psyciatric disorders were evaluated. The results of this study are as follows: a) The ethiological causes (le, head trauma, meningitis) in 51.5% of our patients could have been prevented. b) The age of onset epilepsy in 95.8 % of paUents were 0-30 years old. c)The period between onset of epilepsy and onset of psychiatric disorders were 11.4-11.55 SD years. d) 70.4%of our epileptic patients with psychiatric disorders had primary general ized tonic- clonic convul- 31ons. e) While the patients with preictal and ictal psychiatric disorders tended to have conplex partial seizures, the 3atients with interictal psychiatric disorders (le, schizophrenia-like, mood disorder-like) suffered primary geleralized epilepsy.
