In this study, aimed to investigate the anxiolyticlanxiogenic effect of acute administration of fluoxetine by using chronically immobilized wistar-albino male rats. Animals were divided into three groups:
1. Control grup (n=8)
2. Chronic immobilized group (8): In this group, rats were immobilized for 7 minutes in 15 days and intraperitoneal saline was administered before experiment.
3. Acute fluoxetine group (9): In this group, rats were immobilized for 7 minutes in 15 days, and intraperitoneal fluoksetine 5 mglkg was administered before experiment.

The experimental metod used was Porsolt's swimming test. Results were statistically analized by using student's t test. In control group, as a result of learned helplessness, first 5 minutes time and total immobilization time were increased significantly during second Porsolt's swimming test. In the chronic immobilized group, chronic immobilization stress impaired learning in Porsolt's swimming test and this impairment was restored by the acute administration of fluoxetine in acute fluoxetine group. The results of these tests, taken as a whole, suggests that acute administration of fluoxetine prevents the emotional memory impaired by anxiety.
