In this study, it is aimed to learn observation and experiences of religious men located in Diyarbakır about grief reactions and funeral ceremonies of population and to compare the obtained data with modern grief theories. Tape records of our interviews have been analyzed one by one, thus we determined the general approaches on this subject. According to the obtained data; grief reactions were more severe in sudden and unexpected deaths as expected. Although they cause sudden and unexpected deaths traffic accidents have been accepted more easily, because it's believed that those accidents have been completely related to destiny. In literature, it's reported that religion had contrary effect on grief. Findings in this study supported the hypothesis that the determined rules of religion and the presence of cognitive structure about death led to easy acceptance of death. It's necessary to change the methods used to treat pathological grief reactions among different communities because of different effects of religion and culture. Also, we believe that it'll be useful to involve grief with more details in to education programme in religious high schools and medical faculties.
