In this study which is performed on 103 cases, it was aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between suicide attempt and total serum cholosterol levels. As a result, it is observed that low total cholesterol level is associated with serious suicide attempts. This relationship is confirmed both for men and women.
In our stııdy some parameters were also used for understanding whether the results were a reason or a result. At the end, the evaluation of these parameters showed that the relationship is a primary rather than a secondary.
In spite of this results, investigations are necessary on this important subject. The studies till today, could not have explained the reason of this relationship. The further investigations are important to estimate the suicide attempt and to clarify this association. According to this it may be possible to clear up the etiology of suicide behaviour and the connection of serotonin-cholosterol level, which is frequently insisted on recent investigations.
