A Case Report; Folie d Deux

Shared psychotic disorder or induced delusional disorder also known as "folie d deux", include several syndromes that are characterized by the presence of similar psychotic symptoms in two or more individuals. In most of the cases, psychological and environmental factors play a significant role. In most of there cases, there is genetic predisposition, low socioeconomic status and social isolation. Another predisposing factor for this illness is political and cultural atmosphere of the setting. In the following study, a case of "folie d deux" is introduced in which two sisters were affected. The treatment strategies of "folie d deux" include pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, decreasing the severity of environmental factors which play important role in etiology and prevention of social isolation. In this case report, we discuss the necessity of prevention of social isolation in the treatment of this illness.
