In the present study, all schizophrenic patients admitted to the acute and chronic inpatient wards of Bakırköy Mental Hospital. Research patients who were 144 male and 56 female were randomly selected. Control group who were 30 male and 70 female were randomly selected from Taksim and Haydarpa şa Numune Hospitals. Research patients who meet DSM-IV Schizophrenic Disorders criteria were identified by a senior psychiatrist. The birth data of schizophrenic patients were learned not only from their explanations, their identity cards and driver' s licenses were examined. This data were confirmed at least by one family membership. The birth data, the birth places and the education period of schizophrenic and control group patients were investigated. We used Fisher's chi square and student t test with instat computer program for analysing data.
We found that the age and the sex dispersions of the research and the control group patients werw the same. The proportions of the birth seasons of schizophrenic patients were in winter 22 %, in spring 40 %, in summer 22 %, in autumn 16 %. The proportion of spring births were found significant higher than the other seasons births (p=0,0209). The subjects who were borned in winter were also high, but the difference wasn' t significant. When winter and spring births were accounted together, they were higher in the proportion of %50 than the summer and the autumn births proportion across all the births.
