Affective Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a giyen name for a group of disorders (i.e. alcoholism, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorder, impuls control disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder. Tourette's disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, narcholepsia, migraine, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, kleptomania). The presence of these disorders were investigated in affective disorder patients and in their first degree relatives. 86 remitted bipolar and 30 unipolar patients who admitted to our hospital were compared with 36 healthy volunteers. First degree relatives of both patients and volunteers were also compared. All groups were applied Spitzer's SCID-NPIOP, Andreasen's FH-RDC and structured ASD interviewing form of Hudson-Pope. Affective Spectrum Disorders prevalence in bipolar affective patients were not significantly higher than the control group statistically. Unipolar patients had longer duration and frequency of illness and higher suicide ratios comparing to bipolars but these two groups showed no statistical differences by means of Affective Spectrum Disorders. Affective Spectrum Disorders in general was found significantly higher in unipolar patients comparing to bipolars and healthy controls (p=0.009). In comparison of first degree realtives, only mothers of bipolar patients had more psychiatric disorders comparing to unipolars (p<0.04).
