Family studies are important instruments to determine family aggregation for psychiatric disorders. Family aggregation studies with adults report that the relatives of early-onset (under the age of 20) depression patient had the highest risk for major depressive disorder (MDD). In this article particularly bottom-up family aggregation studies are reviewed. It is reported that prevalence of major depression was ranged between % 20 to 53 in first degree relatives of child and adolescent with MDD. The same percantage was found between 56 to % 73 for the mothers.
