In this prospective clinical study, patient history, symptoms, clinical and laboratory findings of 92 female patients with carpal tunnel syndrome were assessed. Forty-three percent of these women in the fertility period while 30 % were in premenopousal and menopousal age groups. Nine percent of all patients were pregnant, 5 % were in lactation period and another 5 % were using oral contraceptives. Carpal tunnel syndrome appears during pregnancy and lactation in a transient nature. The symptoms disappear spontaneously a few months after the termination of pregnancy and lactation. First complaint in all patients were paresthesia, and nocturnal pain. After using night splints in the treatment, symptoms regressed in 80 % of the patients. The use of non-steroid antienflumation drugs proved successful in only one-third of all cases. Symptoms subsided in patients using oral contraceptives, after cessation of these drugs. Surgical intervention should be indicated in advanced cases.
