Movement disorders seen in schizophernia, especially catatonia, are losing their importance. It may be suggested that the weaning of catatonic symptoms is due to successful treatment with antipsychotics. But more than that, it might have been due to the fact we used to consider all movement disorders that we see as EPS induced by mediacation. In this paper, history of catatonia and its classification, clinical signs, epidemiology, laboratory techniques and treatment of catatonic symptoms in the last 15 years are reviewed.
