24 patients diagnosed as conversion disorder according to DSM-III-R criteria in the Phychiatry Clinic of Ankara State Hospital were included in the study to investigate the psychiatric symptoms, severity of anxiety and depression and the comorbidity of the other psychiatric disorders. We selected an age, Bender matched control group of 19 healty subjects. Each patient was investigated with DSM-III-R structured clinic interview, symptom list which is derived from DSM-III-R diagnostic criteria, Hamilton depression scale, stait-trait anxiety scale. 83.3 % of the patients had paresthesia, 79.2 % had tremor, 75 % excitement, dizziness, 70.8 % had seizurel convulsion, sweating, globus hystericus, 66.7 % had palpitations, joint pain, back pain, 62.5 % had bloating, 58.3 % had dyspnea, chest pain, blurred vision, 54.2 % had fainting, trouble walking, 50 % had painful menstruation and nausea. Compared to controls the severity of depression and anxiety of the patients were significantly higher. The comorbidity of the conversion disorders with depression (25 %) and somatozation disorder (79.1 %) was appeared.
