Depression and anxiety, following the stroke, have been reported in about half of the patients. However, the association of alexithymia and cerebrovascular accidents is yet to be studied. In the preset paper, depression, anxiety and alexithymia scores of 20 patients were studied and the results were compared with the time of the stroke, the lateralization of the lesions and the findings of current neurologic examination. Overall, the depression and anxiety scores of the whole group were higher than that of reported for Turkish population. No significant correlation between lateralization and depression and anxiety was found, but alexithymia scores of patients with left hemisphere lesions were significantly higher than the patients with right hemisphere lesions.
