Assessment of depression and personality disorder comorbidity in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic disorder (PD).
Subjects were selected among the patients consulted to Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Psychiatry Department oııtpatient unit and anxiety disorder policlinic (with symptoms seen in PD and OCD as the primary complaint and diagnosed as OCD and PD with or without agoraphobia according to DSM-IV criteria. All of the subjects in the study were selected randomly and gave informed consent for participation.
All of the subjects vere diagnosed to have at least one personality disorder (PeD) according to Structured Clinical Interview .for DSM-N (SCID-H) personality disorder form. Histrionic PeD was the most common in PD (19.4 %) and borderline PeD was the most frequent in OCD patient group (27.2 %). 89 % of OCD group and 85 % of PD group was diagnosed who have depression according to Hamilton Depression Scale (HDS). OCD group had mean depression score of 26.4 whereas PD patients had a mean score of 22.7 in HDs. The dillerence among both groups for depression prevalance was not statistically important.
The importance of the sociodemographic and clinical studies about anxiety disorder and related depression, is increasing in the world. There are a lof of questions to be answered on this subject. In order to answer some of these questions, we investigated the comorbidity of PeD and depression in OCD and PD. Because depression prevalance is high in OCD and PD, these patients must be examined very carefully for existence of a comorbid depression.
