Akathisia is a common and distressing side effect of neuroleptics with unknown pathogenesis. Iron deficiency have been proposed as a risk factor in akathisia. In order to study the relationship between iron metabolism changes in patients with having neuroleptic and akathisia development, we have compared 30 patients with akathisia to 30 matched patient without akathisia. There were no significantly differences in serum iron, transferrin, percentage saturation and ferritin levels between two groups. But total iron-binding capacity was higher in patients with akathisia than patients without akathisia. There findings indicate the requirement of, ,further studies research the association between akathisia and iron metabolism changes.
