The spinal muscular atrophies are the second most frequent childhood neuromuseular diseases after Duchenne's muscular atrophy. Distal spinal muscular atrophy (Charcot-Marie-Tooth type) accounts for about 10 % of all cases SMA and 3-6 % of all cases of the peronal muscular atrophy syndrome. We present two patients clinically resemling Charcot-Marie-Tooth but eventually diagnosed as distal from SMA by laboratory investigations.
