A lthough it is widely known that 1) epileptic diseases have an episodic course similar to mood disorders, 2) there are clinictrlly observed similarities between tehese two syndromes, and 3) affective syndromes are seen in a considerable portion of epileptic patients with psychiatric disorders, the studies in this field appear to be rare in literature. In present study we therefore examined 50 patients with bipolar mood disorders who met DSM-III-R diagnostic criteria and who esere admitted to our hospital sequentially. Consequently, we found that there is a variety of symptoms and signs associated with complex partial seizures in patients with bipolar mood disorders. Also, we discussed the potential pathogenetical aspects of the results, trying to find out the clues for future direction.
