Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP's) were investigated in 20 patients (9 male, 11 female and mean age: 56 years) with brainstem infarcts. Ten patients had small/lacuner infarcts in right half of pons, 4 in left half, 2 in midline region, 1 in bilaterally basis pontine, 1 in left, 1 in right cerebral peduncle and 1 in left cerebellar cortex. Ten of twenty patients had BAEP abnormalities. Two of them had no recordable waves bilaterally. 4 had absence of IVth and Vth waves, 3 had prolangitation of V-V intrapeak latencies and 1 had the absence of all waves of the left Side. As a result of the study the BAEP abnormality ratio was found to be 50 % and decided that this investigation was an usefull auxillary method for determining the sizes and sides of infarcts.
