Although some women manifest premenstrual changes in mood and behavior, the changes are usually less severe. It is known that there is a relationship between premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and psychiatric disorders especially affective disorders. 57-100 % prevalence of life time major depressive disorders in female patients with PMS has been determined. But premenstrual dysphoric changes have been reported in more than 2/3 of women with life time major depressive disorder. In our study; we aimed to investigate the frequence of PMS symptoms of women before depression. We compared 28 women with major depressive disorder to 28 women who are health in terms of premenstrual symptoms. While PMS diagnosis'was detected retrospectively in all of the study group, this rate was 28.5 % in healthy group. PMS is significantly higher in the study group than the controls. Since there is PMS before depressive disorder, PMS may be the predictor of depressive disorder.
