Paraneoplastic neuropathies are cancer related neuropathies which can be seen in 4-5 % of cancer patients. The presentation is usually with subacute or chronic nonspesific sensorial symptoms. They are most commonly seen in small cell lung cancer, and gynecologic malignancy related paraneoplastic polyneuropathies are extremely rare.
We present a 70 year old woman clinically presenting with an acute progressive paraparesis. Her electromyographic examination was suggestive of an sensorimotor axonal polyneuropathy. After her systemic evaluation, she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and no other explanation for her polyneuropathy was found. We point out that paraneoplastic neuropathies must be included in the differential diagnosis of acute polyneuropathy syndromes which may help the early diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cancer.
