In this study the relationship between structural brain abnormalities shown with cranial computerised tomography (CT) and positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia was investigated in 52 patients who met the DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia. Pathologic CT findings were present in 24 patients (46 %) and corelation between CT pathologies and some of schizophrenic negative and positive symptoms was found to be significantly high. As a result to make a valid classification of schizophrenic symptoms, cross sectional studies made with cranial CT should be supported by advanced neuroimaging techniques and studies.
