In this study 34.0 % of all the workers working in a factoty in the province of Kocaeli was found to be comsume alcohol; whereas 15.7 % of the workers were ex-users. More than half of the present alcohol users and ex-users have drank alcohol before age (63 %) and (67 %) of them have started to drink for fun or for curiosity. However, the present alcohol users stated that the reason for drinking was primarily (24.5 %) economic hardships. Economic hardships were also the primary reasons for restarding (20.3 %) and wanting to quit (44.1 %) alcohol. Smokers used significantly more amount of alcohol than nonsmokers (x2=38.35, p<0.001).
