If the definition of treatment resistance or resistant symptoms are expanded including psychopathology in occupational, social and cognitive fields, more patients will be classified as treatment resistant.
Most of treatment resistant schizophrenia patients are the ones who are hospitalized for long periods and who need long term psychosocial support. Treatment resistance is important from a practical and theoretical view because of difficulties in treatment protocols.
