Akathisia is a syndrome of motor restlessness associated with the administration of antipsychotic drugs. Despite the clinical importance of this syndrome, phenomenological descriptions are inconsistent. Generally, akathisia is usually defined as an acute or subacute side effect of neuroleptics but the existence of chronic froms of akathisia is also known. In this review; the types of akathisia, particularly tardive akathisia, a chronic form of akathisia, shall be discussed
