Kernicterus is an uncommon cause of extrapiramidal disorders in childhood. Early symptoms of kernicterus which develop in the second or third day neonatally, are jaundice, lethargy, respiratory distress and poor feeding. Death may follow in the first few weeks in most cases. Survivors may develop mental retardation, hearing loss and hypotonia. Seldom, survivors with minor serebral damage may have normal IQ or may have learning disorders and late symptomps of choreoathetosis, dystonia, rigidity in limbs or paroxysmal dyskinesias may develop. In kernicterus, lesions due to hyperbilirubinemia are found in serebral regions like subthalamic nuclei, globus pallidum, thalamus and oculomotor and cochlear nuclei. Late onset of symptoms of kernicterus are rarely reported. In this case report; 10 year old girld with kernicterus which presented with dystonia is discussed.
