The sample consists of 17 children aged 7-15 with OCD according to DSM-HI-R, who sought treatment at Child Psychiatry Department of Çukurova University Hospital, from July 1994 to December 1994 and their first degree relatives. They all completed the Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Symptom Checklist (MOKSL). The MOKSL scores of the children with OCD and their first degree relatives are compared to the MOKSL scores of the children without any psychiatric disorder (n=13 ) and their first degree relatives. The difference between the MOKSL scores of the OCD group and psychiatrically normal controls is not statistically significant. Although the sample in this study is very small the results indicated that OCD is more prevaknt i ıi the general population than has previously been believed. To clarify these results epidemiyolojik catchment area studies are needed.
