A Double-Blind Comparison of the Effects and Side-Effects of Amineptine and Trazodone, Novel Antidepresants in Turkey. in Depresston Tmatment. Thls research was alined to determine to compare the anUdepressant effeet and the side effects of amineptine and trazodone that are novel antidepressants for Turkish pop ı.daUon, in a double-blInd study of 154 inpatients dlagnosed as. 68 Major depression and 82 dysthimia according to DSM-111-R crtteria. Amineptine dosage of 200 mg per day and trazodone dosage of 300 mg per day were giyen on a double-blind bases over a period of eight weeks. Assesments were made at days 0, 7, 14, 28 and 56 using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), a standart side-effects check-list, and othcr examtnations as follows: at days O and 56, blood samples were taken: cardiovascular parameters (hcart rate, blood pressure and EEG recording) were examined, and body weight of patients were measured. Side effects of both drugs on liver, kidneys hematologıcal and systemtc side-effects were determined from laboratory examtnattons of blood samples. Our investigation tndicates that the amineptine treatment we used is equivalent to corresponding trazodone treatment. A lower incldence of side effects of amineptine than trazodone were found.
