Yaşlılık Depresyonunda Trazodon ve Paroksetinin Rastgele Tek-Kör Karşılaştırılması

The aim of our study was to compare trazodone, presenting a reference antidepressant for geriatric depression, with paroxetine aspects of efficacy side effects and acceptability. The study group consisted of 40 patients diagnosed major depressive disorder and fulfilled DSM-IV criteria between Januar) , 1996 and December 1996 in Fırat University Medical Faculty Psychiatric Department. Their ages were over 60 years. The patients were divided two groups randomizely. Hamilton depression scale (HAM-D), Hamilton anxiety scale and mini mental examination were performed to each patient following psychiatric interview and before treatment. The patients were divised in two group. 50 mg/day trazodone and 20 mg/day paroxetine were giyen in both of group. The Jose was raised gradually in cases which was not enough responsive. The patients were peıformed HAM-D scale, Hamilton anxiety scale and mini mental examination at first, second, 4th and 6th weeks in addition to psychiatric examination. And so the efficacy of treatment was assessed. At sixth week improve on HAM-D score was statistically significant both groups. Also, comparison of two drugs, although there was a minimal superiority about trazodone, but the difference was not statistically significant. Dizziness and sedation in trazodone group and trembling and sweating in paroxetine group were prominent side effects. Both drugs were found efficacous on geriatric depression.
