In the present study, it was aimed to determine colors which come first to mind (spontaneously) and favorite color and numbers which first come to mind in a group of university students and to discuss under the light of literature. The study group consisted of 604 students in Firat University. The subjects were asked to prefer the favorite color and the first color and number (between 0 and 9) that come to mind. In order to determine the favorite color, a 4X4 cm cartoon instrument included eight colors (blue, green, red, yellow, pink, black, brown and grey) designed by Luscher and Scott. On the other hand, the patients were said to be could out of these colors. When subjects were asked to write color that first come to mind, red (33.1 %) was the most frequent chosen and .following blue (24.5 %). When subjects were asked to favorite color, blue took red's place and red was not preferred amount of color blue. In regard to number preference, 3 (23.8 %) was the most frequent chosen numher and following 7 (15.4 %) and 1 (13.6 %). Sixty nine percent of response were single numbers. Our results suggest that the dominant factors affecting color and number preference esere associated with sociocultural characteristics in the region being lived.
