Although dry mouhth is a well known Side effect of lithium, there is only one case about increasing in saliva as a result of taking lithium. The case was 65 year-old male patient with a history of bipolar mood disorder for eighteen years. He had taken lithium regularly between 1984-1986 and lithium had been discontinued because of hospitalization for lithium entoxication. He had undergone manic and depresive attacks being treated with outpatient medication by 1990. Lithium had been restarted in 1990 and he had come to the outpatient clinic with the complications of hypersalivation and metalic taste in the ninth mounth of the treatment. Otolaryngologic and general sistemic examinations were normal. Blood analysis of lithium were in normal liinits. A decrease in salivation during manic and depressive attacks accompanying a decrease of blood lithium level was observed. A positive correlation between blood lithium level and increasing in salivation was also found.
